Arc of 115°5, this is the title of the work by the artist Bernar Venet presented in the Albert 1er garden.
At first glance enigmatic, this monumental sculpture follows the curve of the Bay of Angels. Like Halong Bay, Rio, or San Francisco Bay, the Bay of Nice is world-renowned for its landscape quality and its legendary Promenade des Anglais. The shoreline we currently contemplate is the result of a double combination. On the one hand, the action of nature, which has gradually filled the Gulf of Nice and reclaimed land from the sea, offering new perspectives to the people of Nice. On the other, the hand of man, who, from the mid-19th century, gradually developed the shoreline and sometimes even built on the water and removed obstacles (rivers, valleys, rocks, all the way to the sea). This exhibition aims to understand the transformations of the coastal strip from Rauba-Capèu to the Var River.
