Chapelle Saint-Sebastien

This chapel is one of a series of chapels placed at the entrance to villages to protect their inhabitants against the plague.

Founded in 1481 by the community and adorned with paintings by Giovanni Baleison, it is of major interest among the range of the painted chapels in the valleys of the Nice hinterland, partly because it contains a full cycle of paintings, and partly because it remains a testimony to life at the end of the 15th century: depictions of architecture, clothing, tools,….The chapel is rectangular in shape, with a flat chevet, with a full plaster barrel vault and covered with a double pitched roof. The entire interior (walls of the chevet, vault, side walls) is adorned with tempera painted walls.
