Castle of Tourrette-Levens

Located at the tip of a rocky spur and dominating the village, the castle is the symbol of the medieval past of the commune.

Rare castle of the county of Nice still standing, it offers the visitors a superb panorama between sea and mountain at only 12 km from Nice. It would have been built on the site of an ancient temple from the XIth century. Rebuilt in the 12th century, six towers (only one remains today) transformed it into a fortress. Its dominant position allowed to watch the road and to protect itself against the enemy attacks. Today it houses the Museum of Butterflies and Natural History. In the summer, open-air concerts are organized there throughout the month of July, these are called the Musical and Cultural Nights.
