Saint Peter’s and the Sea Festival

From 20 to 21 July 2024

From Saturday 20 to Sunday 21 July 2024.

For 24 years, the town of Cagnes-sur-Mer and the Amicale San Peïre dei Pescadou dou Cros have joined forces to celebrate the Feast of St Peter and the Sea.

Originally, this was the traditional fishermen's festival: on this occasion, they would go to the Chapelle du Cros in procession to pray to Saint Peter to make the fishing a success.

Tradition also dictated that the poorest fisherman's boat would be burnt and the village would contribute to providing him with a new boat, amidst songs, dances and celebrations.

This year, Cagnes-sur-Mer will once again be celebrating the Fête de la Saint-Pierre et de la Mer.

The traditional events will be held in the presence of the folk group "Nissa la Bella": mass in the church of Notre-Dame de la Mer, the procession and the setting ablaze of the boat, which is now only shown in order to preserve the maritime heritage and the period pointus boats, which are being restored.

On Sunday at 4pm you can watch the parade of the sea.

In addition to these traditional events, there will also be sea-related activities, including an introduction to traditional rowing in the bay of Cros-de-Cagnes by the Amicale San Peïre dei Pescadou dou Cros, sea outings with the Association Aventure Pluriel and demonstrations of S.N.S.M. life-saving techniques.

You can also try your hand at scuba diving with the Moana club.

On Saturday, a tasting of local specialities will be on offer at the Port du Cros-de-Cagnes (€15, booking required).

On Sunday evening, the town's choirs will perform in front of the Eglise Notre-Dame de la Mer at 6.30pm, followed by a sardinade at 8pm and a variety show put on by the Amicale San Peïre dei Pescadou dou Cros (€23, advance booking required).

This year, a new show will be on offer to the public on Saturday evening from 10pm on the pedestrianised seafront: "OCTOPUSSY ET LES AQUAVELOS" by the Planète Vapeur Company.

This wandering show takes spectators on an extraordinary journey:

Straight out of the fantastic fairytale world of Jules Verne, Octopussy, the giant octopus attached to the Nautilus, waves its transparent tentacles in changing colours.
Heavy-footed divers shower spectators with ribbons as Octopussy amazes young and old alike.
Nimble on her feet, Octopussy straddles the crowd accompanied by Vélos d'un autre temps, three-wheeled bicycles carrying strange and mysterious fish.

Like colourful hot-air balloons strolling through the streets, the world of Jules Verne begins to dance to the frenzied music! Brassy, metallic machines driven by wild, whimsical sailors, colourful explosions...
The Aquavélos will sweep you off your feet! It's a journey that's as interactive as it is festive.

A moment of wonder and emotion!
Tradition, spectacle and music will all come together to delight the spectators, who will be able to enjoy the pedestrianised seafront on Saturday evening.

Residents and motorists beware!
Traffic will be prohibited on the Promenade de la Plage
between allée des Pins and avenue Jean Jaurès on Saturday 20 July from 6pm (and until 4am on Sunday 21 July 2024).
