I Jahman Levi, A Legend of Roots Reggae

Known for his deep, spiritual voice and his compositions imbued with faith and humanity, he has established himself as one of the standard-bearers of conscious reggae. I Jahman Levi’s international success began in 1978 with the album “Haile I Hymn,” which included the timeless classic “Jah Heavy Load.” This title, along with others such as “I’m a Levi” and “Are We a Warrior,” illustrates his ability to blend messages of faith, personal introspection and denunciation of social injustices.

Throughout his career, he has released many acclaimed albums, such as “Africa” (1982), “Tell It to the Children” (1982) and “On Track” (1983). His music is distinguished by rich arrangements, often tinged with soul and jazz, but always rooted in roots reggae. An authentic artist and true to his convictions, I Jahman Levi has managed to cross the decades without ever compromising his artistic integrity. Today, he is a respected figure and a source of inspiration for reggae lovers and generations of artists who follow his example.

Culture feat. Kenyatta Hill: The eternal breath of roots reggae

The group Culture is a living legend of roots reggae, famous for its spiritual and social messages. Founded in 1976 in Jamaica by Joseph Hill, accompanied by Albert Walker and Kenneth Dayes, Culture quickly established itself on the reggae scene thanks to its captivating vocal harmonies and committed lyrics. The group is best known for its debut album, “Two Sevens Clash” (1977), considered a masterpiece and a cornerstone of roots reggae. This prophetic album, inspired by Rastafarian teachings and social tensions in Jamaica, had an immense international impact and remains a timeless classic.

Following Joseph Hill’s tragic death in 2006, his son, Kenyatta Hill, took over the role. Kenyatta quickly stepped into the lead singer role, honoring his father’s legacy while bringing his own energy and powerful voice. His transition allowed Culture to continue to share their message of peace, justice, and spirituality, while renewing their popularity with new generations.

With Culture feat. Kenyatta Hill, the band keeps the essence of roots reggae alive. Kenyatta and his bandmates continue to revisit Culture classics like “International Herb,” “Jah Rastafari,” and of course, “Two Sevens Clash,” while producing new songs in the band’s militant and spiritual tradition. Always true to the values of reggae music and the Rastafarian movement, Culture feat. Kenyatta Hill remains a force to be reckoned with on the international scene. Their stage presence is a mix of homage to Joseph Hill's legacy and a celebration of the resilience and evolution of reggae music.
