L’engagement pacifiste chez les artistes au XXe siècle
Conference
22 April 2025
Tuesday 22 April 2025 at 6.30 pm.
The 20th century is a century of wars, and also one of inspirations for peace. Some artists were bearers of this message at the time of the Great War: the conference will show the works that tried - in vain - to stand up against the conflict.
Having emerged from the Second World War in turmoil, Western societies are opening up to an unbridled pacifism that is reflected in various works of art. The conference will show how Pablo Picasso became the painter of peace (notably in the form of a dove) but also how this ideal was translated during the Cold War, such as the Peace Wall in Prague in the early 1980s.
