From La Batterie, enjoy a panoramic sea view over the marina and the Petite Afrique district with its beautiful Belle Epoque villas.
At the beginning of the 18th® century, this promontory was equipped with a modest fortification built by Vauban, of which a spur remains.
Following the annexation of the County of Nice by France in 1860, the imperial government built La Batterie de Beaulieu, a customs post and fort, completed in 1862.
The site lies within a rich Gallo-Roman archaeological zone, which in 1897 provided Dr. Johnston Lavis with a vast cemetery.
In 1944, La Batterie was destroyed by the German army. What remains is an esplanade offering superb views of the cliffs and the marina, which grew up around the small harbor anchored by the colorful pointus boats of the local fishermen.
In July and August, the Théâtre de la Batterie hosts Beaulieu-sur-Mer's open-air cinema.
