The Pinatelle forest and its eponymous peak, which rises to 1,751 m, are closely linked to the village. The Pinatelle cable car, a ski lift used by skiers, walkers, hikers, and mountain bikers for leisure activities, is also a popular option.
The wood from this forest, with Scots pines at the bottom and firs and spruces at the top, was used to build the frames of the village houses. Once used for haymaking, access to mountain pastures, and forestry work, the hiking trails now crisscross it, providing access to the Lieuson plateau.
Starting at an altitude of 592 m, this ski lift offers a panoramic view of the entire Mont Ténibre massif and the border peaks in about ten minutes. You'll also have a commanding view of the village and its architectural layout, the neighborhoods of Ublan, Anelle, Duminière, La Belloire, and the Clapière area. During the winter season, from December to March, skiers can rent skiing equipment, purchase their ski passes, and take the La Pinatelle cable car and Lieuson chairlift to the Demandols or Haute Plane areas.
During the summer season, in July and August, the La Pinatelle cable car and Lieuson chairlift make the summits accessible to pedestrians for easier hikes: descents or traverses to the Auron resort, and descents to the village. The Auron Mountain Bike Area allows mountain bikers to descend the marked trails for all levels.
Opening periods
All year round, daily.
In winter, the forest is difficult to access. The Pinatelle cable car is accessible from December to March and in July and August.
