Come and discover Lakmé, an opera in three acts. Libretto by Edmond Gondinet and Philippe Gille, based on Pierre Loti's novel Rarahu, a Polynesian idyll. Premiered April 14, 1883 at the Opéra-Comique in Paris.
Gerald, an officer in the British army, discovers a young Hindu girl, Lakmé, while out and about. Despite the forbidden, they fall in love - much to the chagrin of the girl's father, the stern Brahmin Nilakantha.
