An unconventional fifth-grade teacher, Madame Marguerite passionately teaches French, history, math, and biology, all while instilling her prejudices about society, sex, and death in her young students, who are halfway between childhood and adolescence. She is the teacher with universal knowledge, embodying the learning of obedience to the authority of the teacher, a reflection, with humor and seriousness, on the curious relationship between power and knowledge that persists in the protected world of school. By turns threatening, angry, or saccharine, benevolent, authoritarian, and seductive, Madame Marguerite provokes, mistreats, but loves us!
