Set in a 17th-century Genoese villa in the heart of the olive grove in the Cimiez gardens, this monographic museum traces the artistic development of the painter who lived in Nice from 1917 until his death in 1954.
The Musée Matisse Nice houses the donations made to the City of Nice by Henri Matisse and his heirs. The collection, comprising almost 600 works, traces Matisse's artistic research from the 1890s to the gouache paper cut-outs of the end of his life. The museum also preserves the artist's personal objects, providing an intimate insight into his creative process.
