Pilgrimage of Our Lady of the Most High to the Col de la Bonette

Pilgrimage to the Notre-Dame-du-Très-Haut oratory at 2800 m at the pass which brings together the inhabitants of the Tinée and Ubaye valleys for a procession and a religious celebration near the highest inter-valley road in Europe.
The oratory of Our Lady of the Most High was installed in 1963 at the Col de La Bonette, at an altitude of 2,715 m. It was a remarkable feat to install this structure in such hostile terrain.
The statue was created by sculptor Madame Andrée Diesnis. It is a Virgin and Child, which reigns supreme above all the passes, installed by the people of Saint-Étienne who had performed a devotional service following the evacuation of the village of Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée to Entraunes on June 10, 1940.
