Place Corniglion Molinier

The Place Corniglion Molinier is the main square in the new village of Roquebillière, opposite the town hall, and owes its name to Édouard Corniglion-Molinier.

Édouard Corniglion-Molinier was a fighter pilot, Major General in the French Air Force and a politician (senator, deputy and minister) in the Fourth and Fifth Republics. A general councillor for Roquebillière since 20 March 1949, he became mayor of this county town in the Alpes-Maritimes ten years later. The landslide of 1926 and the construction of a new village from 1932 onwards were a terrible ordeal. The people of Roquebillièrois, aided by numerous donations from all over France, tackled the task with courage and tenacity. A new church replaced the old Saint-Michel du Gast church, a new town hall (which you can see from the square) was built, as well as a new school, a college, a hospital (Jean Chanton's ephad), a health centre, sports facilities and the Berthemont-les-bains spa centre. All these buildings and developments have made Roquebillière the focal point of the valley, enhancing the quality of life of the village's residents and contributing to its tourist appeal.
