Cros-de-Cagnes was the largest fishing port in the Alpes-Maritimes from 1920 to 1930. Located between the ports of Saint-Laurent-du-Var and Villeneuve-Loubet, Cros-de-Cagnes has kept its professional maritime activity.
In the 19th century, fishermen from Naples decided to settle here and form their own little village of ‘Cros-de-Cagnes’, delighted by the fish-filled waters offered by this part of the Mediterranean. Our fishermen were soon joined by the inhabitants of Haut-de-Cagnes, who gave up their farming activities in favour of fishing. The village continued to prosper, reaching its peak in the early 20th century with a fleet of over a hundred ‘pointus’, the name given to local fishing boats. Today, Cros-de-Cagnes is a blend of tradition and modernity, where the small harbour and the ochre-tinted fishermen's chapel sit alongside water sports and traditional rowing all year round, beach restaurants and dynamic shopping.
