Ironman, an exceptional sporting event!

See you on Sunday, June 16, 2024 for the world-famous Nice IronMan competition! This year, the race welcomes more than 6,600 athletes of 100 nationalities who will attempt to qualify for the VinFast World Championships to be held in Kona (Hawaii) for the men and Nice for the women.

The IRONMAN de Nice is one of the longest races in the triathlon format. It can be run as either an IRONMAN or an IRONMAN 70.3, with the main difference being the race distance.

The lively, friendly atmosphere makes this a not-to-be-missed event! Nice Côte d’Azur offers a magnificent setting between the sea and the mountains, ideal for surpassing your limits.

  • The IRONMAN consists of three consecutive events. The first is a 3.8-kilometer swim, which participants must complete in under 2 hours and 15 minutes. This is followed by a 180-kilometer bike race, which must be completed in less than 10 hours and 45 minutes (including the time spent swimming). Finally, athletes must complete a 42.195-kilometer run. In total, the Ironman covers a distance of 226 kilometers, to be completed in under 16 hours.
  • The IRONMAN 70.3 is also a triathlon but of medium distance, equivalent to half the Ironman race. It also starts with a 1.9-kilometer swim, to be finished in under 1 hour 10 minutes. This is followed by a 90-kilometer bike race, to be completed in under 5 hours 40 minutes. And a 21.1-kilometre run. The whole race must be completed in under 8h30.

Good to know 💡

In 1978 in Hawaï, the famous “IRONMAN” race was born. The competition was born of a debate between naval commander John Collins and his wife Judy. They debated whether a runner, cyclist or swimmer was the toughest athlete. At the end of the debate, they propose a challenge to fifteen or so men who will attempt to take up the challenge. The challenge consists in whoever wins a race combining the three disciplines, who will then be called the “Iron Man”.

The result: on February 18, 1978, twelve men finished the race won by Gordon!
