Obtaining the national “Accueil Vélo” mark
27 September 2021
The Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis has many natural and structural assets for cycling and for welcoming cyclists.
On the government side
In order to better welcome mountain bikers and itinerant travellers, the destination has been investing for several years now in the creation of cycle tracks and specific itineraries. In particular, the “Auron-Nice Electrically Assisted Mountain Bike Itinerary” crosses 16 communes over 261 kilometres, in 7 stages. This itinerary includes a passage over the Bonette, the highest road pass in Europe, and arrival on the Promenade des Anglais! It thus makes it possible to join the highest peaks of the Mercantour to the shores of the Côte d’Azur
In 2020, the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis also hosted the start and finish of the first two stages of the 107th edition of the legendary Tour de France. Similarly, every year in March, the destination hosts the finish of the Paris-Nice cycling race! This just goes to show how much Nice Côte d’Azur loves sport and cycling!
From the private sector and the Tourist Office
For their part, private service providers wishing to offer their customers a special service adapted to the needs of cyclists* can voluntarily apply for the national “Accueil Vélo” mark.
This mark is currently held by some 6,000 service providers in France. In the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Area, more than fifty accommodation providers and cycle hire companies have already obtained the label. This is also the case for the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau through its tourist information offices in Nice (train station and Promenade des Anglais), Cagnes-sur-Mer (town centre and Cros de Cagnes), Saint-Laurent du Var, Vence, Carros, Roquebillière and Auron.
These last two branches of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Tourist Office have recently met all the criteria of the standard and obtained, during the summer of 2021, the right to use the “Accueil Vélo” mark for a renewable period of 3 years. The certified metropolitan service providers are listed on the nice tourism website under the heading “Nice Côte d’Azur à Vélo” / Preparing your cycling holiday. They also display the “Accueil Vélo” logo at the entrance to their establishment.
