Eglise de l’Annonciation / Eglise Sainte-Rita

Rather discreet compared to other monuments, the Church of the Annunciation, known as Sainte Rita, located in the heart of the bustling district of Vieux Nice, is one of the oldest in the city.

Behind its discreet façade, the Church of the Annunciation, known as Sainte Rita, hides many secrets. In contrast to the simplicity of its exterior, the interior is decorated in the Baroque style and has many features showing great wealth. Among them, magnificent luxurious ornamentation and period paintings dazzle with their beauty and originality.
The church consists of a central rectangular nave, decorated with incredible frescoes. It is surrounded by six side chapels. One of them is entirely dedicated to Sainte Rita herself, an Italian nun beatified by Pope Urban VIII and known as the Saint of Lost Causes. The others honour other holy figures such as Saint Peter, Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saint Erasmus. Certainly less popular than its famous neighbours, like Sainte Réparate, a short walk away, Nice's Church of the Annunciation is a real jewel to visit on a walk in the little streets of the old town. It has been registered as a Historical Monument since 1942.
