Jardin des Arènes de Cimiez

Nestling on the hill, the garden of the Arenas of Cimiez is a traditional living space where the people
of Nice love to meet, for a day of farniente in the shade of the age-old olive trees.

A huge olive grove of 3.2 hectares, the Jardin des Arènes de Cimiez is dear to the hearts of the people of Nice. More popular with local people than tourists, it is a real haven of peace to relax at weekends, far from the bustle of the city. On the agenda: a family picnic, a relaxing walk, a game of pétanque or even a small siesta in the shade of thousands of age-old olive trees. Overlooked by the Monastery of Cimiez, the garden adjoins the Matisse Museum, the archaeological museum and site as well as the famous Arenas. It is a zero-pesticide park where many traditional events take place which taking through the eras, such as the Fête des Mai (Festa Dei Mai in Niçois). Every year, the people of Nice meet there for events, shows, stands of culinary specialities,
demonstrations of folk dances and music. It was also in these gardens that Nice Jazz Festival took place between 1974 and 2010, before finding its permanent home in the Jardin Albert 1 er in the city centre.
