Chateauneuf-Villevieille

Explore Châteauneuf-Villevieille with the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau

The village of Châteauneuf-Villevieille is scattered on the slope of Mont Férion, surrounded by olive and cypress trees. There is no real centre, apart from the small square where a large church (dated 1880) stands, and from which a few quiet lanes lined with villas lead off. A large covered wash-house and its fountain (dated 1893), a few terraced gardens, fresh air, an atmosphere of nature and countryside, and 300 hectares of woodland that invite you to take a stroll.

The ruins of Castel Nuovo

The village of Castel Nuovo was built on a rocky outcrop in the 6th century to protect it from invasion by the Lombards and Saracens. After the signing of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle in 1748, the village of Castel Nuovo was abandoned and the inhabitants eventually returned to their primitive village (the site of today’s village).
