The 100% marine "Cap Ferrat" Natura 2000 site was designated in 2009 under the European Habitats, Fauna and Flora Directive.
It covers almost 9,000 ha, facing the coastline of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Eze and Cap d'Ail.
This highly attractive area, where numerous activities are taking place, is home to marine ecosystems and an abundance of biodiversity. Five habitats of Community interest (i.e. protected at European level) are present on the site, in particular the Posidonia meadow and the coralligenous biocenosis, and two species of Community interest frequent the area: the Bottlenose dolphin and the Loggerhead sea turtle.
