Chapelle de La Miséricorde

Located at the heart of Cours Saleya, the Chapelle de la Miséricorde is a jewel in the history of Nice, the Baroque architecture of which fits perfectly into the colours of the old town.

The Chapelle de la Miséricorde was built from 1740 based on the plans of architect Bernardo Vittone. This imposing Nice monument, built on the location of the former salt stores of the King of Sardinia, nowadays stands across from the famous Nice Flower Market. Behind its yellow façade, reminiscent of the colours of the old town, it consists of a main elliptical nave around which four semi-circular lateral chapels are structured.
On the ceiling, a magnificent fresco covers the cupola on a blue background which gives the impression that it's an open-air church. One of its many original features is that it houses a convent upstairs. To admire it in all its splendour from an original angle, you are advised to climb the stairs of Cours Saleya, situated right opposite it. The Chapelle de la Miséricorde du Vieux Nice has been a registered Historic Monument since 1921.
