It dates back to the 11th century. The building was considerably modified around the 19th century, with extensions including the addition of the presbytery in 1846. From 1992 onwards, major works gradually gave the church its current appearance.
It is said that the local population dug caves beneath the church's foundations to provide shelter from invaders.
