The Saint François Tower is so high that it dominates the whole old town of Nice. Built in the thirteenth century, it is now open to the public who can gaze over the entire city from the top.
Fifty metres high, Tour Saint François is the former bell tower of the Franciscans church and convent which stands proudly at the heart of the Vieux Nice. Built in the thirteenth century, it was completed in the 1830s by a clock, a campanile and a majestic 1500 kg bell according to the plans of the Nice architect Joseph Vernier.
A few years ago, a contemporary spiral staircase was installed within its four narrow walls to enable visitors to access the top. But to gaze at the panoramic view over the entire city, you have to deserve it! Before accessing it, you have to climb 262 made-to-measure metal steps, some landings linking with the original staircase, which has been retained too. From up there, an exceptional 360° viewpoint over the hills, the old town and, of course, the sea. Note that the configuration of the sitedoes not allow access to children under seven years of age or people with reduced mobility. Not recommended for people prone to vertigo. Tour Saint François has been registered as a Historical Monument since 1993.
