Opéra Nice Côte d’Azur

Located at the entrance of Vieux Nice, the Opera Nice Côte d'Azur is a real architectural masterpiece laden with history, which has hosted all year round since 1885, stunning opera, choreographic and symphony shows.

The Opera Nice Côte d'Azur is a key place, laden with history, a short walk from the famous Place Masséna. Built in the eighteenth century, it was completely destroyed by a terrible fire in 1881 during a performance of Lucia de Lammermoor. Nice mourned over 200 victims to whom the pyramidal monument at the entrance to the Castle Cemetery would be consecrated.
Rebuilt in 1885, it has since been a place to meet for the people of Nice who are still to this day impressed by its architectural beauty. Its amphitheatre can accommodate more than 1,000 people who come to attend dazzling musical performances of contemporary works or adaptations of traditional shows. Among the most historic performances can be counted La Bohème, Samson and Dalila, the Barber of Seville, Don Quixote, Otello and the famous La Traviata. Apart from the various performances, it welcomes the curious who can take guided and commented tours to explore all its rich history and the secrets hidden there. The Opera Nice Côte d'Azur has been registered as a Historic Monument since 1992.
