Located in the heart of the city, the Port of Nice consists of a dozen docks, on some of which "pointus" are moored, the traditional colourful little boats which give the place a real picture postcard appeal.
Why "Lympia"? Because the name comes from the spring of the same name. At the time, Lympia fed into a little lake in a marshy area where the work to build the port began in the middle of the seventeenth century. Nowadays, this is the place where the city of Nice's main port facility is. It is divided into two separate parts: a commercial harbour on one side and a second marina harbour at the other end. Visitors love to stroll by admiring the luxurious yachts, as well as the "pointus" the traditional brightly coloured boats which people enjoy photographing. In summer, you can cross from one bank to the other on board Lou Passagin, a small, electrically propelled "pointu" which is available free of charge. Every year, the people of Nice get together for
the Fête du Port. An evening when live music, light shows, gastronomic workshops and discoveries are experienced in the open air and in a friendly atmosphere.
