As the parades go by, you see carefully decorated floats, performing groups from France and across Europe, and music that sets the rhythm. One highlight stands out in particular : “Bataille de Fleurs” (flower parades). Created in 1876, it showcases local know-how through roses, mimosa, carnations and gladioli most of them locally grown arranged on the floats and thrown to the crowd, a gesture that has become part of the Carnival’s identity.

Alongside the main parades, there’s time to stop by the Carnival Village on the Promenade du Paillon. Free and open to everyone, it offers artistic performances, creative workshops and food stands, for children and adults alike, all in step with the Carnival atmosphere.

Good to know 💡

With roots going back several centuries, the Carnival is deeply woven into the history of Nice. Mentioned as early as the Middle Ages, it took on its current form in the 19th century, when Nice established itself as a major winter destination. Ever since, floats, costumes and iconic figures have reflected the world around them, with humour, imagination and a touch of playful distance.
