« Nice, Winter Resort » book
Nice, a winter retreat : a book that reveals another side of the city
Long before becoming a summer icon, Nice was shaped by winter. Soft light, blooming gardens in the heart of the colder months, grand façades facing the sea… This is the story told in « Nice, Winter Resort », a new book presented by the Nice Côte d’Azur Tourist Office in collaboration with Éditions Gilletta.
Across 112 pages, the book offers a visual journey into the Nice that attracted visitors from across Europe as early as the 19th century. Photographs by Olivier Huitel capture the city’s Belle Époque architecture, lush gardens and sweeping views between sea and hills. The images invite the reader to slow down, to notice details, and to rediscover the city beyond its summer image.
Accompanying texts written by the Nice World Heritage Mission provide context and depth, tracing how this tradition of winter tourism shaped the city’s urban landscape and way of life a history that led to Nice’s inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2021. Together, words and images paint the portrait of an elegant, open city designed around climate, light and the art of living.
Published in a bilingual French-English edition and presented in a generous format, the book is both an art publication and a cultural guide. It reads like a stroll through the city, moving naturally between past and present, architecture and atmosphere.
“Nice, Winter Resort ” book is available from the Nice Côte d’Azur Tourist Office information shop, on the website, and at its stand in the Christmas Village throughout December. The book is also distributed by Éditions Gilletta in bookshops across the Alpes-Maritimes and online.
A book to give, to keep, and to return to an invitation to see Nice through the quiet elegance of winter, where heritage and beauty meet.
