A sidecar ride, a retro tour “à la Française”

I have always loved the idea of sidecars, but I had never had the chance to try one out. So, when the founder of Riviera Sidecar offered me a ride, I immediately accepted.

On the day of the tour, I met the sidecar driver at the meeting point in front of the Théâtre de Verdure on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. After we introduced ourselves, he handed me a helmet, a balaclava, and a pair of gloves to complete my “monkey” look, as they say in biker slang. I took my seat in the vintage-style sidecar and was ready to set off and explore “Nissa la Bella” and its surroundings.

As I ride in the sidecar, I can feel the engine roaring and imagine that I’m traveling back in time to the 1930s. It’s so much fun! People I pass smile and say “hello” to me. It’s true that I don’t go unnoticed in such a fast vehicle.

Our route takes us along the Promenade des Anglais and Place Masséna, where we can admire the magnificent Fontaine du Soleil fountain. Then, we continue on towards Mont Boron to gain some elevation. From there, I have a splendid view of Nice and the intense blue of the Mediterranean Sea. I can even make out the contours of the Esterel. What beauty! We then continue to Villefranche-sur-Mer and its majestic citadel.

Our trip includes several stops so we can admire the magnificent panoramic views. I take the opportunity to take some photos! During these stops, our driver, Franck, comments on the various tourist attractions we pass.

Time flies, and it’s time for Franck to take me back via the Reserve, the Port of Nice, and the Quai des États-Unis.
