Gourmet tour in the heart of Old Nice with OnCity

I had already visited the old town, but never like this.

It was punctuated by stops to discover and taste typical Nice products.

The tour began on the Quai des États-Unis, overlooking the Baie des Anges. Then, the guide led us to the Cours Saleya, where market gardeners and horticulturists had set up their stalls. We began our first tasting at this location, which is popular with tourists and locals alike.

We wandered through the narrow streets of Old Nice for about three hours, stopping to sample local specialties. I savored no fewer than 15 savory and sweet treats, including the famous Socca made with chickpea flour, the pan bagnat, Nice’s quintessential sandwich: the Pan Bagnat, and the Pissaladière, an essential onion tart. To finish on a sweet note, I enjoyed artisanal ice cream with unexpected flavors, served in a homemade cone.

At most stops, the producers took the opportunity to explain their products to us. I learned a lot about the Olive de Nice, which is exclusively from the Cailletier variety. It has fine, crunchy, delicate flesh and incomparable fruitiness. I also learned about Bellet AOP wines. They are exceptional wines made from Rolle and Clairette grapes for the whites and Folle Noire and Braquet grapes for the reds and rosés. These grapes are specific to Nice.

The tour was nicely balanced between anecdotes about cultural heritage and culinary tastings.

But I won’t say any more—come and discover Nice with OnCity!
