La Place Saint-Francois

Place Saint François is a cherished place in the eyes of the people of Nice. Recently renovated, this square, laden with history, is particularly busy in the mornings when it hosts its famous fish market.

It has made its mark on the heritage of Nice! Place Saint François, known mainly for its fish market, is at the heart of historic monuments of the city. Around it stands a sublime Baroque style building, which was the City Hall until the nineteenth century, and today houses the Palais Communal de Nice. Beside it is found the majestic Franciscan church, dating from 1250, as well as the former convent of Franciscan friars. Looking up you notice that it is dominated by an impressive tower which is difficult to ignore: the Tour Saint François, a few metres away.
Every morning (except on Mondays), it is busy with its fish market, which was temporarily re-located to Place Toja, during restoration work. In the afternoon, it turns into a friendly living space in the heart of the old town. Now pedestrianised, the people of Nice like to meet around the pretty fountain to discuss the rain and lovely weather.
