Les Orients perdus

Exhibition

From 04 October 2025 to 12 January 2026

From 04/10/2025 to 12/01/2026 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and weekends between 10 am and 6 pm.

Dive into the little-known world of Théodore Lascaris, a forgotten figure in the Lascaris family, through the pen and illustrations of Jacques Ferrandez.

This first volume traces the journey of a character in search of new horizons, from Malta to Egypt, amid the upheavals of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic campaigns.

The exhibition presented at the Palais Lascaris features original plates, preparatory sketches, and historical objects, recreating the atmosphere of a rapidly changing 19th-century Mediterranean. Inspired by the collections of Nice's museums, Ferrandez combines historical accuracy with the insight of traveling painters.

A special edition, with an alternative cover and a new graphic booklet, will accompany this event.

Born in 1955 in Algiers, Jacques Ferrandez is a renowned author and illustrator, trained at the École des Arts Décoratifs de Nice. He began his career in the magazine À Suivre in 1978 and became known for the Raffini series (1980-1988). In 1987, he published Carnets d’Orient, a ten-volume epic devoted to the history of the French presence in Algeria.

A passionate globetrotter, he published several travel journals (Les Tramways de Sarajevo, Retours à Alger, Cuba père et fils), and adapted major works by Albert Camus and Jean Giono into comics. In 2021 and 2023, he returned to the contemporary history of Algeria with Suites algériennes.

Jacques Ferrandez now lives near Nice.
