Terra Amata Prehistory Museum – Entrance

An elephant-hunters’ camp dating back 400,000 years, where the first traces of domestication of fire in the world have been discovered.

This site is known the world over as the site of the oldest hearths in the history of mankind. The museum presents the behaviour and lifestyle of the first inhabitants of Nice, who set up their huts on the beach and hunted elephant, rhinoceros and deer. The museum was completely renovated to mark the 50th anniversary of the excavation of the site. It now features an updated museography incorporating the latest discoveries, and offers visitors a new interactive and entertaining itinerary.
